# Anti-Ragging Committee Member Rakesh Singh advises students to report incidents, respect peers and help maintain a safe academic environment
Safdarjung Hospital and Vardhman Mahavir Medical College (VMMC) organised an anti-ragging programme for first-year medical and nursing students on Wednesday, with senior journalist and Anti-Ragging Committee Member Rakesh Kumar Singh addressing students alongside Principal of Safdarjung Hospital and Vardhman Mahavir Medical College Hospital, Dr Geetika Khanna.
Singh advised the newly admitted students to remain aware of their rights and responsibilities, maintain mutual respect and report any instance of ragging or harassment to the appropriate authorities without hesitation. He also encouraged students to support their peers and contribute to a positive academic environment.
During the programme, Singh interacted with students and discussed the importance of discipline, responsible conduct and healthy relations between senior and junior students. He emphasised that students should approach the designated authorities promptly if they face any issue related to ragging.
Dr Geetika Khanna also addressed the students and highlighted the institution's commitment to providing a safe and conducive environment for medical and nursing students.
The Anti-Ragging Committee works under UGC guidelines to prevent ragging, create awareness, address complaints and promote a safe environment for students. The committee includes representatives from the local media, civil administration, legal fraternity, police, NGOs and parents.
The institution recently re-nominated Singh as a committee member representing the local media. He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting initiatives that promote student safety, welfare and a positive academic environment.
Safdarjung Hospital and VMMC provide healthcare services to thousands of patients and play an important role in medical education, training and research.
