On the completion of 12 years of the Narendra Modi-led government, Parul Singh, President of the Delhi State Para Olympic Committee, said that India has witnessed remarkable progress in sports and para sports, driven by better infrastructure, strong policy support, and greater opportunities for athletes.
She said that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, sports have become an important part of India’s development journey. Investments in training facilities, talent identification, and athlete support have helped Indian sportspersons perform consistently at the highest international level.
Speaking about para sports, Parul Singh said that the Prime Minister’s use of the word *“Divyang”* brought greater dignity and respect to persons with disabilities while encouraging a more inclusive approach to sports. She added that this vision has been backed by improved funding, better training facilities, and increased support for para-athletes across the country.
“The results are visible today,” she said. “India’s Paralympic medal tally has grown significantly over the years, and our para-athletes are making the nation proud by winning medals and breaking records on the global stage.”
Parul Singh also highlighted the expansion of sports infrastructure through initiatives such as *Khelo India* and the *Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS)*. Modern stadiums, high-performance centres, synthetic tracks, and advanced coaching facilities have created new opportunities for talented athletes from cities as well as rural areas.
She noted that Indian athletes are now achieving success at the Olympic Games, Paralympic Games, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, and World Championships, reflecting the country’s growing strength as a sporting nation.
“Over the last 12 years, India has invested not just in sports infrastructure but also in the dreams of its athletes. The rise of Indian sports and the success of our para-athletes show the impact of inclusive policies and long-term planning. As India moves towards becoming a developed nation, sports will continue to inspire the youth and strengthen national pride,” Parul Singh said.
