With the rollout of the world’s largest publicly funded health assurance scheme in the state, millions of eligible beneficiaries in West Bengal will gain access to cashless and paperless treatment at empanelled hospitals across the country. The scheme provides health coverage of up to ₹5 lakh per family annually for secondary and tertiary care hospitalization.
The move is expected to extend financial protection against catastrophic health expenditure and improve access to quality healthcare services. Reports indicate that around six crore people in the state are set to benefit from the scheme, while beneficiaries will also gain access to a nationwide network of over 36,000 empanelled hospitals.
The inclusion of West Bengal under AB PM-JAY completes the near-universal adoption of the flagship health scheme across the country and strengthens the government’s efforts to ensure equitable and affordable healthcare for all citizens.
