Among the key railway projects, the Prime Minister inaugurated new and upgraded rail sections to improve connectivity in interior districts and flagged off Amrit Bharat Express trains, enhancing long-distance passenger travel from West Bengal to major cities. The railway initiatives are expected to benefit daily commuters, traders, and industries by improving access and reducing travel time.
In the waterways sector, PM Modi laid the foundation stone for an extended port gate system integrated with an inland water transport terminal, a project designed to ease congestion at Kolkata docks and facilitate smoother cargo movement through river routes. The project will enable direct movement of goods between ports and hinterland locations, promoting environmentally friendly and cost-effective transport.
Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister said that the development of eastern India is crucial for achieving the goal of a developed India, and emphasised the role of modern infrastructure in attracting investment and generating employment. He noted that improved rail and river connectivity would strengthen trade, tourism, and industrial activity in West Bengal.
“These projects will help make West Bengal a major hub for trade and logistics while creating new opportunities for the youth,” the Prime Minister said, adding that the Centre is committed to expanding infrastructure in the region.
