Taking an important step towards enhancing the empowerment and skill development of persons with disabilities, the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Electronics Sector Skill Council of India. This MoU was formalized on January 08, 2024 under the leadership of Shri Rajesh Aggarwal, Secretary, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, with the aim of equipping the disabled with special skills required in various types of jobs in the electronics sector.

This historic MoU symbolizes a collaborative effort to develop human resources through vocational training in line with the demands of the industry. By leveraging the expertise of ESSCI, this initiative aims to create pathways for sustainable livelihoods of persons with disabilities and foster a globally competitive workforce.

Under the terms of the MoU, the Indian Electronics Sector is committed to provide vocational training to the PwDs as per the Skill Council and National Council of Vocational Education and Training (NCVET) curriculum standards. Additionally, the Indian Electronics Sector Skill Council will facilitate linkages with potential employers and industrial networks to ensure seamless placement opportunities for the trainees. Importantly, the placement will guarantee a monthly salary in line with the Minimum Wage Act and industry benchmarks.

Additionally, the Electronics Sector Skill Council of India will maintain its commitment towards post-placement support by providing counseling and tracking services for at least three months after placement, thereby ensuring the continued success and integration of PwDs within the workforce. This collaboration is an important step towards inclusivity and economic empowerment, reaffirming the commitment of the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities and the Electronics Sector Skills Council of India to create an enabling environment for disabled people in the electronics sector.
