A major achievement was achieved in the 850 MW Rattle Hydroelectric Project in the state with the diversion of the course of Chenab River through diversion tunnels at Drabashalla in Kishtwar district in Jammu and Kashmir at 11.30 am on January 27, 2024. River diversion will enable the dam area on the river bed to be isolated to undertake the vital activity of dam excavation and construction. This will expedite the dam construction activities and help in reducing any delay in the project work so that the project can be completed on the scheduled date of May 2026.

The work of completing this Rattle project is being done by Rattle Hydroelectric Power Corporation Limited (RHPCL), which is a joint venture between NHPC Limited and the Government of Jammu and Kashmir, whose stake is 51:49 percent respectively. Rattle Hydroelectric Project with an installed capacity of 850 MW is located on the Chenab River in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir. The project was approved by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs in January 2021 with a total cost of Rs 5281.94 crore (details here).
